Even before I turned 10, I remember my Grandmother telling my sister and I to turn off the tap while we were brushing our teeth. This was a trick she had learned on one of her many varied and highly adventurous travels around the world. It’s one of those pieces of wisdom that stuck with me and still to this day, I do it. Only now, I’m also trying to teach my kids to do it too. It’s important. And now, you can get these brilliant, beautiful body products to remind us all whether we’re brushing our teeth, washing our hair or cleaning our grubby bodies at the end of another great day out in the world. You know the one, the world that needs the water ….
Stop The Water While Using Me! make hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, hand balm and toothpaste. All are pure natural cosmetics without synthetic fragrances, colours or preservatives. No silicon, paraffin or other mineral oil-based substances and no animal testing. Only natural essential oils in refillable bottles. They’re even practically vegan – the soaps contain honey, the only animal products used.
The citrus fruits are procured from a family business in Portugal (there’s just something so appealing about that isn’t there?!), and all the essential oils are sourced from organic sources.
Strangely though, this fabulous product range was developed in Germany of all places, where they don’t generally struggle from water shortages like Australia and other such hydration-challenged countries. Hats off to them for doing it.
Order from here. They ship internationally, but you can also check if it’s already stocked at a cool store near you here. I’ve got my eye on the travel kit to take with me on my next camping trip.
I think I’m in love…..
No girl wants, needs or should pack a full bag of makeup for camping. That said, no girl wants to be confronted with a tired, red, dull face in the mirror the morning after a night in a tent either. So, my mission with these Camping Beauty posts is to find truly great little beauty and skincare products that deserve to come along. Now lemon aid by Benefit is definitely one such product. I’ve used it for years and it lives in my handbag. I take it camping too. A tiny bit bigger than a 50p piece, this gem of a cream is a soft, lemon yellow cream which helps to hide redness and any discolouration on your eyelids. You don’t need Cate Blanchett’s skin tone either as it just lightly brightens lids. You can wear it with or without makeup and it will have you looking properly refreshed in a snap. And I really mean that. Even if you have nothing else to hand, no foundation, no mascara, one go with this and your whole face looks better. Just blend a tiny bit on your eyelids with your fingers and you’re away. It lasts forever, there’s a mirror in the compact (we’ve all stayed in campsites with no mirrors…) and it’s £16.50. You can buy it here.
Looking at the Benefit website this morning, I also came across this product called You Rebel. This would accompany the lemon aid really well and you’d be done for the day with very little effort. It’s a tinted moisturiser which will give you light coverage (there’s also a You Rebel Lite option). It moisturises, contains vitamins A and B and is SPF 15. You can apply it with your fingertips as well, so no brushes or other paraphernalia required. It’s £24.50 and you can buy it here.
Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins
Camping can be tough on a girl, but roughing it doesn’t have to mean looking rough. Seriously. There are plenty of fabulous products out there that can really help make you feel and look almost beautiful after a chilly night in a tent and three days without a hair brush. I’m going to dig around and unearth some great ideas to add a real dash of glam to your camping over the next coming weeks, so let me know what you think! Would you give any of these a try?
First up is Clinique. Launched a couple of weeks ago, this Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins is just brilliant! And the colours! Six years in the making, these pots of polish are good to skin and eyes, high shine, quick drying and chip resistant (with the collection’s base and top coats applied). And did I mention the colours? There are 12 permanent shades and nine limited edition, including my favourite camping shade: 70 and Sunny. I love that nail polishes are popping up everywhere in really funky, surprising colours. Nail polish may not seem like much of a camping necessity but don’t underestimate how nice it is to have something to hide the dirt, grit and charcoal that can get under your nails when you’re out in the wild…. (When you get back to your urban life you can pop on a metallic grey like Concrete Jungle or Made of Steel!)
70 and Sunny, £12 each
The other product I now throw in my camping beauty bag is this Moisture Surge CC Cream. This little tube is compact but it’s powerful stuff and in minutes it’ll get you looking like you can camp with the best of them. You don’t even have to confess to wearing it it’s that light. You’ll come back from your morning shower looking more like you’re staying in a 5 star hotel. It adds glow, corrects colour (that’s the “CC”), hydrates and it’s SPF 30. Love it.
Moisture Surge CC Cream, £28
My other little must have is their newly reworked and much loved multi-tasker, Fresh Bloom All Over Colour. It’ll give you a glorious glow like you’ve just been scared by an adder that turned out to be a stick. You can buy all these online here.
